The evidence that Celts had visited and settled in the Americas has been gathered by many researchers in many diciplines. Most notably are Dr. Barry Fell, Mrs. Gloria Farley, Mr. Burrell C. Dawson, Mr. Roderick Schmidt, Mr. Wm. McGlone and Mr. Phil Leonard. All have written books or published papers on Celtic inscriptions carved upon Native American stone in antiquity. The books written by these enlightened authors are listed in the Bibliography. The Celtic presence at Inyo is demonstrated in the overall calendar design and several inscribed elements. The sole Inyo anthropomorph is identified as the Celtic deity, Lugh. This is a rare depiction with no known surviving examples. There are other connections that are equally important. The first notable link found to any foreign visitation was Arabic. It was an Arabic notation that started the current investigation. I appears that the Arabs inherited knowledge of western lands from their Punic (Phonecian) ancestors. An image of a ship accompanied by an image of Tanit (a Punic deity) is also carved upon the Inyo stones. What other nationalities may have visited Inyo in concert with their Native American hosts is yet to be learned.
